the flats....

about a year and a half ago, i was running everyday at lunch with andy when blake, mike, bill and john invited us to run with them at the y.  i was so out of shape and slow, i would always fall way behind until i just decided to hang it up.  im still out of shape and slow, but i'm tired of running the lake day after day by myself. so today, i decided to rejoin andy, bill, and john for a lunchtime run at the flats. when i say rejoin, i mean i rode there with them and rode back with them.  i made up my mind to stay on the program until i can do 30 min. nonstop.  ive always heard of the flats but never been there.  so they got me pointed in the right direction and i told them to go on without me, i would meet them back at the gate.

i must say in the last four weeks, today (W4D3) was the most enjoyable workout yet.  this morning, i ate my regular breakfast of a breakfast burrito and yogurt & fruit parfait at 8:15. at 11:00, i had a 100 cal. cup of yogurt an hour before the run. it felt like the route was downhill the whole way.  with a minute to go, i opened her up to a respectable stride and pace.  when i was done, my legs wanted to keep on. no stiches in my side, no labored breathing, nothing.   this may become a regular weekday course with the lake and all its hills on the weekend.
