ive been away for a while....missed a week of running when red went out of town to baltimore. the temps have been in the high 90's most of the week, with some days breaking 100. hot as smoke.
this weekend, dan was in town for the family reunion and we went running saturday morning downtown. it starts at mission primary care clinic, down mcauley, left on vicklan, right on wilson, left on chambers, left on cherry, right on finney, right on drummond, left on china, left on washinton, left at f&g, right on drummond, lefton finney, left on cherry, right on chambers, around glenwood circle and left on mcaully back to mission primary is right at 5 miles. its becoming my favorite route. we did two extra washington street loops for a total of 7 miles.
the heat is really taking a toll on the running. i have been conflicted with buying a road bike in order to do some crosstraining that doesnt involve weights. the picnic boys all suggested entry level road bikes from a couple of bike shops in jackson. at this point, i can't appreciate the benefit in a lighter, higher-end bike when i'm still carrying 40-50 extra pounds and find it hard to justify a $600-$800 bike starting out. i found the gmc denali road bike (kent) at walmart for$ 160. i'm hoping to drop 40lbs. by christmas (4 months). the way i figure it, the walmart bike will cost me about $1/day and if i like cycling, i can upgrade with a new bike for christmas.
also, in related news, cousin joelle has started running. she told me she would do chicago 2011. maybe we can be long-distance training buddies.
